English II STAAR Essay Review – Free Quizizz Lesson

The STAAR test is next week! I put together this Quizizz lesson to help my students review how to write the persuasive essay on their English II STAAR test. You can do it live in the classroom, going over the slides and pausing for students to answer the questions. You can then discuss the correct answer together and dig deeper into the essay process.

It reviews the parts of the essay and provides examples. It has multiple choice questions throughout the lesson that has students evaluating examples to determine which ones work and which ones don’t. This pairs perfectly with my STAAR Test writing prep on Teachers Pay Teachers!

Romeo & Juliet Comic Book

I just saw that SparkNotes has the Romeo and Juliet comic book on their website for students to read for free. The website says “Explore our Romeo and Juliet graphic novel to find illustrations of every scene in the play paired with helpful line-by-line translations of the original text.” What a great resource if your students are remote learning!

Turn a worksheet into an editable Google Slide

It’s easy to turn a worksheet into an editable Google Slide.

You can watch this video I made or just read these step by step instructions.

First you need to export your PDF to an image file. I prefer to save it as a PNG file. There are several programs that can do this. I use Adobe Acrobat. Or, if you have it as a paper version you can scan it as a high resolution image.

Then open your Google Slide. Go to File > Page Set Up. Change it to custom. 8.5 x 11 inches. Or, if you need it in landscape you can do 11 x 8.5.

Next go to Slide > Change Background > Chose Image.

Once you have set your background you will need to add text boxes where you want your students to type their answers.

If you are using the Google Classroom: Create a new assignment. Attach the Google Slide and be sure to select “make a copy for each student.”
